Gaston "Phil" Dalton
Rev. Gaston F. “Phil” Dalton, DD
November 4, 1929 to April 10, 2009
Rev. Dalton was the youngest of four children born to Ellen and Gaston Dalton. He and his sisters Alva, Nora, and Mary were raised in and around Ashville, N.C. and Greenville, S.C.
After leaving school, he worked in the textile mills in S.C. He later served his country doing a three year tour with the U.S. Marines. It was during his tour in the Marine Corp. that he met and married Shirley M. Oldaker on February 5, 1949. They became the proud parents of four children: Mary Ellen, Phyllis, Lois and Rocky. In addition to his time in the Marines, he also toured a short time with the U.S. Army.
Shortly after coming to reside in Virginia Beach he started attending church regularly with his family, at which time he asked Christ into his heart and life. In 1963 he accepted God’s call upon his life to preach the Gospel. He was led of the Lord to start a new ministry in the years following his calling to preach. Blessed Hope Chapel was founded on June 9, 1963 with just a hand full of people in the Community Center on Chesapeake Blvd. in Norfolk, Virginia. He received a Doctorate of Divinity with the AIGA in the May, 1976.
Blessed Hope Chapel, through the leading of God and the guidance of Rev. Dalton, has trained and produced a large number of ministers who have gone on to start their own churches and who continue to serve God today.
Rev. Dalton is a grandfather to nine children and great-grandfather to seven.
